Why they work
How do nasal strips help you breathe at night?
A strip sits on the outside of your nose and lifts the sides open, so more air gets in.
The strip pulls the nose open
The Breathe Right insert says its flexible spring-like bands gently lift and open the nose to improve airflow.1 A 2026 review of 13 studies covered wearable devices for a blocked nose from a bent septum, in people waiting for surgery. Strips and inside devices both appear to relieve the blockage, inside devices more, and Breathe Right strips were the most studied. Long-term data were limited. The review is about the blocked nose, not about sleep.9
Snoring and sleep apnea
Do nasal strips stop snoring or treat sleep apnea?
Nasal strips do not treat sleep apnea. The maker says they help snoring that comes from a stuffy nose.
What a 2026 review found
In adults with sleep-disordered breathing, dilators did not change snoring or apnea measures. The authors say they are not a stand-alone treatment, and they may still help a stuffy nose or mild symptoms.10
Adhesion
Will a nasal strip stay on all night?
Buyers say it depends on the person: Amazon's review summaries call sticking mixed on both Breathe Right and Instaclear.
Instaclear Extra-Strength Nasal Strips, Clear, 50 ct
Buyers say the strips help breathing and sleep. Sticking, quality and skin irritation are mixed: 698 reviews mention adhesiveness and 207 mention skin irritation.3
Which nasal strips say they are latex-free?
Among strips that say latex-free and have 100 or more ratings, the best rated is Intake Nasal Strip Starter Kit, reusable band + 15 tabs, 3.8 stars from 5,944 ratings. It is a reusable band with adhesive tabs, so a strip costs more. Dreamflow Wellness also says latex-free, at 3.4 stars from 137 ratings. The Breathe Right package contains natural rubber latex, and its maker says people with a latex allergy should not use the strips.11
Each row is that brand's most-rated listing that says latex-free. 4 of the 65 listings say it; a listing that does not say it may still be latex-free, so check the box.8
